I rather fancy some of the Noldor with features of Indigenous Americans. While I was in New Mexico I got to know some gorgeous people (inside and out) who have inspired my Tesuque Pueblo Celebrimbor.

Date: 2023-01-07 11:43 am (UTC)I've only just started learning how to use digital media, and I love how you've achieved that wonderful painterly effect. :)
(NB: I created an artist tag for you, and added it to this post)

(Haha! Yes, RoP!Celebrimbor in his upholstered gown this is not!)
I'm really loving the amazing possibilities of digital painting with all the great brushes that they have now, and I like messy/ rough strokes because it hides imperfections!
I use Kyles brushes in PS, and I'm happy to share which are my favourites for this style of painting with you.

Have fun experimenting!

OMG. LOL. And I thought my 15 layers was a bit much. *snort*

Date: 2023-01-07 03:19 pm (UTC)Thanks so much! Although I think it's more thanks to the superpower of digital, if I had to paint this with physical paint, without my Undo, and moveable and changeable layers, and selecting and masking... well, it would not look anything like the same!

Date: 2023-01-08 01:51 pm (UTC)Hmm, I think my trick is not being afraid to overlay short, light strokes across my well-defined edges. I also use fat brushes with lots of clear spaces between the "bristles" and rough edges (usually setting the Flow very low but opacity higher and then varying the pen pressure), stimulating a dry-brush.

Date: 2023-01-09 02:37 pm (UTC)You're so welcome! Oh, another thing I'm not shy with is tracing and masking selections from source photographs, which is so much easier with digital than physical paint! And have things on different layers so I can easily change it without having to repaint if I don't like what's there. Layers really give me the confidence to just try things without the worry of messing it up completely. Enjoy your paint journey!
