Title: Shadows

So there's the peryton, a strange winged deer composite monster apparently from fakelore, disappointingly. One of the things about them was that they had the shadow of a man (or presumably woman perhaps if they were gender matching), and to get its own shadow it would have to kill someone to do it. So this got me thinking, maybe there were people out there who had the peryton shadows. What difficulty would that be for them. Surely people would comment!

It would probably easier for a peryton wanting a right shaped shadow to find someone to kill, than a person finding a peryton. Or did they have to find someone in particular who had their shadow. And why would the peryton even care. It's not like the other perytons would burn them at the stake for having the wrong shaped shadow.

The story of the person who had the shadow of a peryton and refused to hand it over could be quite a read.

Also I was just about wringing out the brush pen, it needs refilling now.

You know the stories that say never leave the path once you're in the forest? The forest has grown up all over the road. Every year the numbers on the sign decrease, and no one sees who's altering them. Moon courtesy of ink drop.
A road leads to a forest but seems to disappear

Two great reptiles twine around each other. Took about an hour or two to draw. As is my tradition doing these October draws, no pencil, no erasing, so any blots, and there were some, were worked into the design. Van Dieman's Ink Azure Kingfisher in, J Herbin Rouge Opera with some other red contamination I think and Pelikan's Rose Quartz. Little Kaweco Sport, Twisbi Eco and Lamy Safari Vista.

A headache and a disrupted day but it's better than nothing. Ratatosk looks full of himself. Nidhogg looks like he wants to chew something other than Yggdrasil roots. And the Norns its just business as usual. The Eagle looks like it's more interested in what Vetrfolnir has to say.

She's not a Dutchman, nor is she flying. There are other ghost ships sailing on the sea, and they all have their stories. I think I kind of got a scrimshaw vibe going on here in some ways. This liminal ship, sailing on the edge of wave and atmosphere, of reality and unreality was based on a ship I saw in Finland, a lovely full rigged ship. Ask [personal profile] rdm about full rigged ships and why they're not barks or schooners. If you have some time. Yes, Rob, that's fine, thank you, very interesting. Go back to work.

The russet ink in the Conklin ran out yesterday, so I cleaned it an put the J Herbin Vert Reseda in, very pretty. But I forgot to clean the lid out, so some of it is a mix between the two.

So I got to thinking of Journey of the Sorcerer and the HHGTTG and stuff and doodled this traveller up. Some Sorcerer or other with their copy of The Material Plane on 2 Mana a Day ready to set out.

Title: Cane

This is a portrayal of the, in Australia, notorious Cane Toad, here drawn much larger than life. This amphibian was introduced as a biological control for sugar can pests in Queensland. However, it turned out Cane Toads liked eating all the native wildlife and anything else it could get its mouth around. They breed and breed and breed, and they are quite the menace. As will all toads though, they have lovely eyes.

Both my Pelikan Twists got a workout with a pair of Eidelstone inks. Garnet and Malachite or something like that.

I'm not feeling super great emotionally today and am quite tired from getting up early. Mostly drawn in the waiting room waiting for my blood to be drawn for the PICABOO study.

Possibly a giant cane toad.

Again, pretty much what it says on the tin. A lush rainforest like scene. Unusually for me, no animals at all. Not a single one. The Pelikan Twist is a funny pen but it's quite comfortable for long periods of drawing. It's loaded with Pelikan's Eidelstone Malachite, I think.

Maybe this is the forest that you travel through to get to the Sanctum of Sainted Monsters in Drawtober 15.

Today I could have drawn a big eye - window to the soul, but I decided to challenge myself. Challenging myself when I had a disrupted day was probably not the best plan and perhaps I shouldn't have pooh-poohed rulers and measuring and drawing over the speed limit. Nevertheless I think the Sanctum of the Sainted Monsters has a certain something.

The Rotring Art Pen did most of the heavy lifting.
