Content Notes: This is a work-in-progress for Challenge #70 (MerMay & Marine). Digital drawing using Adobe Fresco.

I started off by using poses from this Youtube video for a 10-minute gesture drawing exercise. I selected 3 of the figures for the mermaids, then used the gesture line along one of the legs as a guide for how to sweep the curve of the fish tail.

And here's my current progress on the 3 mermaids. I added some more details to the upper half of their bodies, and a splash of colour in the background...

Content Notes: Just under the wire with my entry for drawesome Challenge #69: in Spaaace! Digital drawing of Michael Burnham from Star Trek: Discovery. It was a bit of a challenge trying to get her facial features right, and I'm not sure how successful I was, but I feel like I *did* manage to capture something of her spirit. I particularly enjoyed sketching in the sparkly galaxy background. ^__^

Content Notes: Created for Challenge #66: 10 Year Redraw. This is a redraw of Gwen from Merlin (BBC), which I'd originally done for the drawmelot Zodiac Challenge on LJ, about 13 years ago.

The original drawing was done with pen and watercolour pencils. Although I was happy with the overall concept and details of the piece, at that time I wasn't able to capture Gwen's specific likeness, and have always wanted to take another shot at it.

The redraw is a quick digital sketch done on Adobe Fresco. I found the original photo reference, and worked from that to try to get Gwen's features right. I'm still learning how to blend with the digital watercolour brush, and the shading on her face needs more work. But in terms of the sketch itself, I can definitely see an improvement in my portrait drawing skills. Although not a perfect likeness, she's waaay more recognisable now, so I'm satisfied with the overall result. :)
