I thought people here might be interested in trying this challenge for October. We could post here as well, it might be fun to cheer each other on.

Hey, I had heard of inktober but definitely didn't know where it came from! Great. I remember thinking about participating last year but then sort of ... not doing it. Maybe this year. (Since I have to have my current challenge pieces done by 1st October anyway. :-)

YES!! I was just going to do a post about that this weekend. I think we could integrate it into our community activities for October month.

Like, instead of community drawing exercises for the month, we could post up the Inktober Prompts sheet. And then members could share their work here every couple days (or weekly, if that's their preference).

What do you guys think?

Right??

Plus, as you say, it would be a wonderful way to keep each other motivated to go right through with it. And I love that it doesn't have to be daily. It can be every other day, or even just weekly, which takes the pressure off and makes it a little bit more fun for me.

I haven't taken part in Inktober before, so it'll be great to attempt it together with you guys. :)

Oh, cool. I'd vaguely heard of it last year but didn't really know what it was. I'm definitely in!

This looks like a good idea for October! :-) something different from the usual fortnightly challenge!

Would be up for it - just not sure what kind of a pen although? Would a sharpie black pen be okay? mm

have watched the video but subtitles are not very good so could someone write up a transcript for me?

This isn't an exact transcript but it's got all the key details, also some from the site below.

Inktober is a month-long drawing challenge across October each year. 31 days 31 drawings is the slogan.
Started 2009 by Jake Parker, a pro illustrator. It "went viral" in 2013 and by 2014 >100,000 people were posting drawings tagged with #inktober. Jake started it on twitter, but you can post here, your own journal or on tumblr, etc. (We'll make an Inktober challenge tag). Every day across October the challenge is to make a traditional art drawing in any kind of ink (markers, pen and ink, brush pens, ballpoint, etc. etc.) Initially it was black and white but Jake started to add colour via reddish coloured pencil shading after a few years, and using coloured inks is okay as well - just keep the technique traditional. See the comm for more detail - http://inktober.com/ - Jake also gives details about his favourite pens there. These days he puts up a list of prompt words - one for each day - but you don't have to use them. You can just do any drawing that takes your fancy, each day across October.

ETA - that's the "pure" challenge anyway, but as above you can interpret it how you like and post a drawing less frequently than daily. The main point is to set yourself a bit of a challenge to draw frequently, so as to improve your drawing/inking skills. And have fun!
