Date: 2017-09-17 01:27 am (UTC)Inktober is a month-long drawing challenge across October each year. 31 days 31 drawings is the slogan.
Started 2009 by Jake Parker, a pro illustrator. It "went viral" in 2013 and by 2014 >100,000 people were posting drawings tagged with #inktober. Jake started it on twitter, but you can post here, your own journal or on tumblr, etc. (We'll make an Inktober challenge tag). Every day across October the challenge is to make a traditional art drawing in any kind of ink (markers, pen and ink, brush pens, ballpoint, etc. etc.) Initially it was black and white but Jake started to add colour via reddish coloured pencil shading after a few years, and using coloured inks is okay as well - just keep the technique traditional. See the comm for more detail - http://inktober.com/ - Jake also gives details about his favourite pens there. These days he puts up a list of prompt words - one for each day - but you don't have to use them. You can just do any drawing that takes your fancy, each day across October.
ETA - that's the "pure" challenge anyway, but as above you can interpret it how you like and post a drawing less frequently than daily. The main point is to set yourself a bit of a challenge to draw frequently, so as to improve your drawing/inking skills. And have fun!
