Content Notes: This was a good excuse to clean off my paint palettes. I hate cleaning my watercolor palettes because there's still good paint on them. Pigma micron, Pentalic Aqua Journal

Medium: watercolours and fineliner
Content Notes: Another go at doing hirameki. I think I got closer to using the blots more in their own right here, and a few themes emerged: girls with Big Hair, weird birds, smug men in hats and scarves - the rest are miscellaneous.

For the hirameki challenge. The multicoloured one was done with watercolours and fineliner, and the blue animals were done digitally in procreate using one of the pages [personal profile] goss provided.

I'll have another go later as I'd like to try and use the blobs a bit more in their own right, rather than surrounding them with the drawing. Click through for the full size pics.

Watercolour blobs with small drawings on them. Animals, and a bird.         Turquoise and blue paint blobs with drawings of animals on them.

I could only figure out what to do with half of these, but it was great to pull out my watercolors again. Figuring out my perfect watercolor palette was a major project, but then I haven't used it a lot. I'm going to make a few pages of blots later, ones that are lighter in color because some of these are going to be hard to ink over!

I'm ahead of the game! I did this last year in a new sketchbook to break that fear of messing the new beautiful pages...

Drawesome Challenge 37 - Hirameki

Challenge #37 - Hirameki (Draw What You See)

Turn a random blob of paint into a drawing.

Hirameki means a Flash of Inspiration in Japanese. For this month's art challenge, interpret the shape of paint splashes, and transform them into objects, animals, people, etc. by adding a few lines with pen. Let your imagination go! Examples can be seen here and here (YouTube). Also, you can see [profile] amberdream's art post for another example of this drawing technique.

You may create your own splashes, and then doodle upon them with ink pen or marker. If you do digital drawing, here are a few image files of paint splashes that you may download, and then draw upon them digitally: 4 pages of paint splashes )

A round-up post for submissions to this challenge will be done at the end of the month on Wednesday 30th June, 2021.

Happy Drawing, everyone! :)
