1. What was your most challenging artwork to create (or took the longest time)?

It was an illustration I did for a WIP Big Bang "Band of Brothers" fic. I didn't read that part of the story carefully enough and when I ran the final draft past the author they pointed out that in the fic the woman was in a purple dress (it's set in about 1950), and that it was nighttime not daytime! Luckily it was a digital work, and the dress was easy to fix. In the end I managed to darken the whole pic, shift the colour tone more towards blue, illuminate the windows, and add some lighting effects. I used my iPad's edit functions in Photos, plus Procreate. These are the two versions:

2. What was your easiest artwork to create (or fastest)?

Probably Dief Chasing a Doughnut (for the movement challenge), as it was a fairly simple concept and fun to do.

3. What was your favourite artwork that you made this year?

It's a toss-up between my one for the WIP Reversebang That Goddamn Gene where I think I got the creepy atmosphere right, and The correct number of cats is three which has been quite popular. You can't go wrong with cats, and I was pleased with how Rodney's happy little face came out. :D

4. What was your least favourite artwork that you made this year?

I think this one of young Keanu Reeves from My Private Idaho (for the no-erase challenge). It seemed kind of reasonable at the time but now all I can see are the flaws. I'm hopeless at drawing realistic eyes.

5. Did you try a new art technique this year? How did it go?

Not really, but I did try a comic-making app, as below.

6. Did you learn any new art tips or tricks? (or resource that you found useful)

I did a longish coffee shop AU comic for Romancing SGA - Meet Cute, and tried out the Comic Draw iPad app which is for making comics. Either it was too unwieldy or I was too impatient, but in the end all I used it for was the speech bubbles, which I copy-pasted into Procreate which doesn't have a speech bubble function. Although there might be an add-on - I should investigate that.

7. What were your favourite art supplies to use this year? Were any tools or materials new to you?

Still Procreate overall, although I did enjoy painting my seasonal cards freehand with lots of gold and silver details. I splashed out on a few extra brush sets for Procreate, for foliage and wood & rock textures. e.g. used a woodgrain one in the background here.

8. Did you find a new artist or art style to be inspired by this year? Tell us about it.

I love gjdraws' style (an enthusiastic new due South artist). They do clever and funny stylised art. I'd love to be able to draw so dynamically with that caricaturish way of capturing characters' likenesses. e.g. here

Ah thank you for thr review, I discovered a new piece by you, and was reminded of the creepy John gene piece! Also that due South artist is really good, I went and commented.

Thanks for pointing out the new dS artist! I'm amazed at how this fandom persists so long after canon with nothing new happening, but we keep it alive.
