original = highlighters and some kind of pen that I don't remember
redraw = colored pencil, posca pen, and water-based markers
The original was a doodle that I did at work (a job that I absolutely hated), colored in with highlighter while sitting at my desk. This wasn't too long after I had taken an anatomy-for-artists class so I think the anatomy is actually more accurate in the old version.
For the re-draw, I was kind of rushing because I wanted to post this before the month was up and I picked the subject because it seemed like it might be easy. After all, the original was just a doodle. But then I got the proportions wrong and couldn't even fit it on the page and I quickly gave up on the idea that this would be an improvement on the original.

Date: 2024-08-02 12:28 am (UTC)For the 2007 version, I just used office highlighters so the color choices weren't even really deliberate. I think I shaded in the black later at home. (I also suspect that I may have tried to make the original 3D as well, but messed up the back ribs and just blacked it all out to hide that.)
For the 2024 version, I used a bunch of different colored pencils for the ribs (I wasn't even paying attention to which colors I grabbed other than, "Yeah, that's about right".) The jacket and tie are Mr. Sketch Scented Markers because I am a child at heart. The tie is mint (with some melon shading) and the jacket is mostly black raspberry with some grape shading and raspberry highlights. And then the line art started as a black posca pen until I remembered that it was nearly out of paint and I was too lazy to look for the new one that I swear I bought to replace it but couldn't easily find, so the rest of the line art was done in a dark green posca pen.
