Interesting art community
Jun. 7th, 2024 08:51 pmI found this via a Tumbr acquaintance who signal boosted their account there: Cara seems to be a new art community (I feel mostly aimed at professionals, but open to all right now) due to the rise of AI art and the lack of commitment to protecting artists on other platforms.

Even though my livelihood is not affected by AI yet, I try to follow what's happening to professional artists and wanted to share this.

With the widespread use of generative AI, we decided to build a place that filters out generative AI images so that people who want to find authentic creatives and artwork can do so easily.
Many platforms currently accept AI art when it’s not ethical, while others have promised “no AI forever” policies without consideration for the scenario where adoption of such technologies may happen at the workplace in the coming years.
The future of creative industries requires nuanced understanding and support to help artists and companies connect and work together. We want to bridge the gap and build a platform that we would enjoy using as creatives ourselves.

Biggest flaw is that they have no registered designated DMCA agent, which means copyright issues might be a problem. Also, some folks are reporting their anti-abuse systems need to be better.
I don't draw (well, not really) but I *am* a fiber artist and had considered checking out Cara to see if there is a fiber arts community there, but I've decided to hold off for now until the site can get past some of these growing pains.
