Admin Post: Community Check-In for Sept-Oct 2023

It's early November and we're overdue for a check-in, sorry about that! I'm helping out as goss has been a bit busy. Anyway, we'd love to have you check in and chat with us. How have things been with you these past couple of months?

Did you sign up for or take part in any fandom activities in September and October, or have you been working on any personal art projects? Are you currently trying to meet a deadline? Feel free to share upcoming art challenges that have got you excited, any frustrations you've been experiencing, possible goals for the next month, and so on.

Also, a special welcome to any newer members - glad to have you as part of our community, and we look forward to your participation.

Reminder: I'll do a post shortly rounding up the Drawtober challenge, and starting a new one - the last before our seasonal cards exchange in December.

September was all-art-all-the-time for me, as I decided at the very last moment to do a primary work for the due South c6d Big Bang. I did a tarot major arcana set for due South. That meant a card every two days! Got through a few audiobooks and most of a long-running podcast, and thank goodness for Procreate, way faster than traditional art, for me.
In October I managed a few Drawtober works, and now I'm thinking about seasonal cards - I have some ideas, and need to get drawing. I've got some audiobooks already lined up. :)

You have been busy! And oh dear. I have, as usual, forgotten about the holiday cards...

As is so often the case, I've looked at our drawesome challenges with every intention of joining in, then not actually done anything.

I have been busy though - Fandom-wise I've done two Mer Marvel characters for a pin up project which won't be revealed for a while yet; I'm working on my Marvel BB art, SPN Pro-ship Bang, SPN Angels and Demons Reverse Bang, and some holiday stockings (also Marvel).
Non fandom - I have started painting a mini Sun bear (just under 1m tall) for my mum, and I really need to do a post about that!
I've submitted 11 designs so far for next year's sculpture trails and am currently working on 6 more due by mid December. Been successful for one trail so far - got a Shaun the Sheep to paint before the end of January (expecting the sculpture to be delivered soon).
There are another three trails to design for, one's due end December, one 8th Jan and the other hasn't announced the details yet. I'm really hoping my designs will be more successful in getting picked than this year, so fingers crossed!
Mum wants me to do a drawing of Shrewsbury Old Market Hall for her friend for Christmas, and I should be starting my holiday cards already.

Hmm writing it all down that seems rather a lot - I'd better get on with it...!

The sculpture trails do seem like a lot of fun - I bet kids especially enjoy the brightly painted animals. Yes, lots to do there, but I'm sure you'll make it!

I feel like I'm just in constant flail-mode lately.

I've been oh-so-slowly catching up on my goal of finishing last year's Drawtober. I've got the prompts written out in a sketchbook that works best for markers, so it's mainly turning into a meditative coloring project (time-consuming, but something I can do while essentially disassociating with YouTube on in the background).

I want to get back to Draw-a-Box practice, but that requires more attention. I also vowed I was going to practice faces and especially eyes this year and have instead spent very little time on it.

I have so many things on my list of "want to try" or "want to do more of" and I continue to just not.
