Useful - apart from then getting sucked down-thread into the arguments about exploiting artists by asking them to work for the 'exposure' instead of paying them. All interesting stuff, mind! 😁

Excellent reminders and very good advice in general for all artists! Thanks for linking to the thread. :)

I also appreciated the article in the comments, and the point they make about deliberate practice, where it can be more effective if you are challenging yourself to develop a new skill or have a specific goal in mind:
Deliberate practice is about being completely honest with yourself about what you want to improve, finding the best ways to actually achieve that improvement, and then actually executing that practice even if it is challenging and uncomfortable.

It is all about pushing yourself beyond your comfort barriers for a specific purpose because that is where you see the greatest gains.

My goal this month was to figure out how to draw using a digital app for making art, so that's sort of taken the pressure off trying to be "unique" and creative, or feeling the need to push myself to work on art for a certain number of days/hours. This month, I'm simply hoping to explore digital tools, and motivate myself to get comfortable using this medium whenever I might have free time.

Thank you, this was very timely. I also read the linked article about the oversimplification of the 10.000 hour rule which was good!
