Question: Indispensable art supplies
Jul. 19th, 2019 02:31 pmSo, I'm moving this month and have started packing things. That led me to the question which indispensable art supplies to put aside for easy retrieval and which ones I could probably do without for some time until I get to the box.
So far these made it into my list (because I still have art to do for a challenge and also need stuff for spontaneous inspiration):
I think might get by for a month or two with these if I had to (I'm hoping to get unpacking done earlier, but you never know).
What about you? Say, if you had to choose 4-5 (including paper) which would those be?

- H pencil
- my watercolour sketchbook
- two brushes, one medium, one very thin for detailing
- my palette of watercolours (I think I have 16 colours in there)

Date: 2019-07-19 05:49 pm (UTC)A set of colored pencils (12-24)
one .7 mechanical pencil with extra leads inside
one white gel pen, one black permanent ink pen, and one black Pitt India ink brush pen for outlining, crosshatching, and highlights
a set of watercolor pencils and a water brush (or a small set of acrylics)
dual sharpener
Staedler white rubber eraser
two paintbrushes (one flat acrylic with a straight edge -- small to medium, one scruffy boar bristle for scumbling)
a gold Sakura gel pen for accents
permanent glue stick or two
small pair of scissors
mixed media paper pad
All of this fits into a pouch about the size of a laptop and is surprisingly portable, especially if you organize the supplies into smaller fabric pencil cases with zippers.

Date: 2019-07-19 11:41 pm (UTC)I'm a (financially) poor traditional artist so my necessities are few and simple.
- 2B pencil
- Knead eraser
- Sharpener
- Black fine felt pen
- Whatever sketchbook I am currently using (lately there's been a lot of 99 cents ones, ugh)
In fairness, I keep all my art supplies except my sketchbook, in a portable "lockbox" (well it is, I suppose, as it came with a key but I've never used it, lol, but since I got it at CVS I'm unsure of it's reliability).

Date: 2019-07-21 06:31 pm (UTC)watercolour palette (the usual W&N Cotman, but I changed some of the colours)
2 brushes, small and large (the ones with the water tank)
a tiny bottle with water (to have clear wather to put on the watercolours)
drafting pencil 0.7
Pitt oil base pencil
4 Polychromos (indigo, burnt siena, violet and dark brown)
fineliner 0.05, 0.1, 0.2
brush pen (but I still can't use it decently)
white gel pen
ballpoint pen (black)
erasable colour pencil (blue, light blue, red)
pencil sharpener
pen-like eraser
kneaded eraser
a small ruler
a victorinox multitool
small folded paper towel
handmade sketchbook (nothing fancy, I just buy the paper I like in big sheets then I cut these either B5 format or square 21x21 cm, just following my spur of the moment)
...that's more a brick than a case, I think.
