For drawesome

It's just slightly after the last day of May, oops (Goss has neen super-busy and I didn’t notice, sorry). But it’s never too late, so we'd love to have you check in and chat with us.

How have things been with you this past month? Did you sign up for or take part in any fandom activities in May, or have you been working on any personal art projects? Are you currently trying to meet a deadline? Feel free to share upcoming challenges that have got you excited, any frustrations you've been experiencing, possible goals for the next month, and so on.

I have signed up for [community profile] marvel_bang and just yesterday claimed two fics for the [community profile] wipbigbang (one Due South and one (hopefully) Grimm) though I don't have confirmation for the latter yet. For my ongoing big [community profile] ds_c6d_bigbang project I started a work log so I'd remember what I still have to do and have some accountability. Two entries so far. I am working on some colour mini sketches to decide which palette to use in the big piece (a trick I learned here from [personal profile] jainas). So far I'm not satisfied with my choices. Will have to experiment more. I'm doing these on a postcard-sized watercolour pad.

Finally finished watching the amazing Canadian show Slings&Arrows and promptly did a tiny picspam, sketches and some graphics.

There was one piece of original art when I was feeling down due to some family drama.

Then I did two last minute entries to the Mermay challenge with my newly arrived Scrawlrbox supplies: Mermay Geoffrey (from teh aforementioned Slings&Arrows) and a Due South Mer-AU Mer Ray and Fraser

Hi all!

In artistic news, I've been drawing quite a few of the prompts from drawing-prompt-s on Tumblr. I plan to post a bunch across this coming week, since this coming week I start an interim job! ... I guess that's also personal news.

OH, and remember my Poetry Month project? I put the cards leftover from Poem In Your Pocket Day in my Interview Folder to pull. out when the interviewers asked me "so what do you do outside work", and when I brought the cards out I briefly explained the project and how people are souls as well as bodies and in medicine we need to care for both. I think that helped get me this job. *beams*

This hasn't been. an easy month but it's been a worthwhile month, and art has been a large part of that. I'm so glad I'm part of this artistic community here!

I didn't manage to stick with Mermay as well as I'd hoped. I need to post what I did do at some point.

Yay for artistic productivity!

And that you could use your art project in an interview is beyond awesome! Congratulations on the job.

I tried to start a few drawings above my skill level, but didn't manage to finished either. I hope to go back to them, but that took a bunch of my drawing time.

Wow... The month is already done? Where dit it go? I spent a week and half in Iceland, but even then, the last check-in post feels it was 2 weeks ago... ^^
This month I wrote a lot, but I have done almost zero drawing appart for some doodles in one of my sketchbooks... However June should be much more busy, and not only because I have started house-hunting, which is very time consuming! :)
- I started my entry for a french small-fandom exchange, I think I'll do at least an art piece,
- I'll work on my Ravage piece (and finish the fic that goes with it)
- I signed-up as an artist for the Murder-Husbands Big-Bang
- I hope to finish my Jaws of the Railsea illustration

And yesterday I started a 32h long course in screen printing, it will take up all my week-end afternoons for the month. The lessons are with an experienced silk-printing artist and it has already been very enriching! For now we have done low-detail techniques and this week I plan to buy masking fluid and a silk-screen to start training on my masking brushwork... and I'll try to design something simple but cool looking to train on, rather that pick some design online.

Wow, you have been buzy! Congrats on getting art picked by writers for the big bang! And writing your own as well!
Also, looking at the art for the werewolves story, I just realised that the way you draw eyes makes me think of Byzantine icons... :)

I have once more done F all fandom wise because politics has been kicking my arse. HOWEVER, [community profile] pod_together is coming up soon, and I love doing that, and [community profile] monthlysupergo has posted a fanmix challenge, so I should be able to do an art/cover for both of those.

My plan of attack will hopefully work! Originally I intended to reserve the whole summer just for dsc6d but then the other fic descriptions were too hard to resist, especially since one of them was Due South as well. ;-)

start a few drawings above my skill level,

Don‘t get discouraged, I do this all the time too. It‘s the only way to push yourself and learn new things, even if they are unfinished. You can get back to them later.

We are not going to do personal works in the silk-printing class, because adapting works to this medium can be tricky, and so the teacher prefers to focus on the technical aspect, on pre-existing visuals that are a good fit with each technique we are studying... But of cours I'll try to share pictures!

I got a silk-screen and some sealer gum to start training and yesterday I tried adapting one of my inktober drawing into something doable with this specific silk-printing technique... It's not that easy! :D I'll try to finish the design today. :)
