Title: First six days of Drawtober
Artist: [personal profile] mific
Rating: Teen for some disturbing imagery
Fandom: original art
Content Notes: Made in Procreate. The theme is horror it being October, so there's organs, blood, a rodent, fear, a skeleton, and a monster. Smaller versions of the pics are under the cut below, and you can see them larger size at my journal under the Drawtober 2024 tag, where there are specific content notes for each, and the occasional additional note about what I was trying to draw. Clicking on each pic below takes you straight to the full-sized pic. I'll only do these intermittently from now I think, as I get carried away with them and have other things I need to complete.

(Prompt: pie) Heart pie

(Prompt: book) Slow librarians

(Prompt: fruit) Low-hanging fruit

(Prompt: into the depths) No way back

(Prompt: valuable) Bejewelled

(Prompt: isn't that a myth?) Vacation

These are excellent!

I didn't see an explanatory note on the most disturbing one (to me), the low-hanging fruit. How did you come up with that?

It definitely increased the ick factor. Good choice.

Yay! Congrats on getting so much art done this week! I've really enjoyed seeing your interpretation of the prompts everyday. ^__^

These are great! I think my favorite is definitely the low-hanging fruit, which reminds me of CS Lewis' warning way back in his day about how people were already beginning to tear down those who tried to bear higher/better fruit, or be taller stalks of wheat. Far too many humans are DEFINITELY low-bearing fruit!

Vacation also made me grin! :)

I'm impressed by your offerings so far, and consistency!
Heads up, it might just be my browser but I can't see any image previews or links, just the text underneath.

I'm in awe of your shading abilities, in this set, and I appreciate the way you incorporated humor!

I've never developed a taste for the Horror genre, but your skills are clear to see. Were you aiming to show influences from Salvador Dali (pie)? Edward Gorey (book)? Dorr Bothwell (fruit)? Gary Larson (myth)?

If you're not already familiar with Dorr Bothwell, check out her work! I think I learned about her from a book called Independent Spirits: Women Painters of the American West, 1890-1945. Most of the art in the book is more traditional in style than Bothwell's, but there's a good mix. I own a copy, and found a lot to enjoy and to learn about in it.

With apologies for commenting so belatedly—thanks for sharing your eye-opening views of the challenge prompts, so far.

P.S.: I just did a web search for Dorr Bothwell's art, and I see that her style changed a lot, over the years! The style in your low-hanging fruit most reminded me of a painting of DB's (from the book I mentioned) that I can't find with a quick web search. Let me know if you'd like me to scan and post it for you.

P.S. #3: Ha! With more searching, I found an image of the painting online:

Hollywood Success

If you're interested, I also found the artists's comments on this painting (search down in the browser page for Hollywood Success—this is a very long web page providing text from a whole book!)

What an awesome drawesome bunch. The low hanging fruit remind me of the Barometz!

These are all chilling and fantastic and beautiful in their creepy way. My favorite is "into the depths" because I've had dreams like that.
