The combination of survivor bias and nostalgia ... I'm so fond of all these things that I did as a kid that I would never let a kid do today. Riding around un-belted in the back of station wagons, riding around in the back of pickup trucks, etc etc.

Also, I just remember a lot more of wandering around on our own, discovering the world without adult intervention that I feel like children today miss out on. (And a lot of the crime rates were *worse* when I as a kid, but my mom didn't have access to 24-hour news telling her she was a bad mom if she let me roam free.)

Yeah, I've actually heard that things were worse back then when it came to crime.
Life was a very different place, that's for sure. :)
