Content Notes: I worked this up in Procreate based, ironically, on a head study I wasn't happy with. (I was testing out a new-to-me pencil and I HATED the way it handled lolol.)

And this was the head study that convinced me not to use a Prismacolor Watercolor pencil in carmine red for sketching lolol. It's not a bad pencil per se, just, I like very soft, very buttery pencil experiences, and something DARKER for sketching so I can actually get darker values. A case of "I had this lying around the house and tried it and meh, I would rather use a different tool for this use case." XD

You are so great at drawing golden elements! ♡♡♡ She's gorgeous, and I love how her her is more abstract-looking, and especially how the parts of the picture that are not central are just lines - it's such a cool, unique style, and it really draws attention to her face. ♡

Thank you! I was inspired by some more "creative" approaches to figurative drawing that I saw in a book I'm reading, Helen Birch's Drawn from Life - basically it's a collection of figure drawings in a WIDE variety of styles/media/situations - everything from classical charcoal drawings to "here's me and my ballpoint on an envelope because I forgot my sketchbook on the train lolol." It's really inspirational!

It does sound like you can get a lot of ideas from that, sort of the "how many different ways can you draw the same thing" question, where the answer is basically infinity.

*stares at your picture again* Seriously, this blend of styles is just SO COOL. ♡♡♡

Everywhere I've seen red pencil used it's been for under-sketching rather than the main event, for all the reasons I think you struggled with it. Anyway, I love the procreate version, especially the soft texture of her hair!
