Admin Post: Community Check-In for December 2022

Tomorrow's the last day of December, and 2022! We'd love to have you check in and chat with us. It's always a busy time of year. How have things been with you this past month?

Did you sign up for or take part in any fandom activities in December, or have you been working on any personal art projects? Are you currently trying to meet a deadline? Feel free to share upcoming challenges that have got you excited, any frustrations you've been experiencing, possible goals for the next month, and so on. :)

You are also welcome to share your Year In Review posts, including artworks created and other accomplishments from this past year.

Announcements:

- fandomtrees still has some needy trees and they are looking for artists interested in fulfilling requests.

- multifandomdoodle has gone live, with 107 artworks posted this week. Please visit the AO3 Collection to enjoy these works, and be sure to leave feedback for the wonderful artists.

- A new drawesome Monthly Challenge will be issued later today, for those interesting in making an early start over the weekend.

A pretty good art month for me! I made three whole holiday cards and my Multifandom Doodle assignment. A bit frustrated with not being able to manage longer drawing sessions, but I liked my output.

I did a multifandomdoodle assignment and pinch hit. XD I also started work on a personal digital piece in Procreate - I'm really trying to refine my process and actually DO e.g. color studies before diving into the full piece because digital makes it so easy to test different color schemes before committing!

Otherwise, I've been continuing with art lessons (which are nearing an end); I did a ~one-year retrospective here (in late November). We just touched on basic color theory and we will probably be discussing a "final project" next so my instructor can kick me out of the nest. XD

Nice! Your charcoal pencil portraits are great! I like the way you used hatched lines to create the play of light on their faces. :)

A busy month doing seasonal cards, a multifandomdoodle piece, a Venom holiday exchange work, a Wheel of Time work, plus art for a couple of due South secret santa fics. Whew! And the fics as well, also one for SGA. Having a bit of a rest, now the deadlines have passed. All but the WoT one are still anon. Oh, and a podfic cover. :)

This month has brought me right back into Nirvana in Fire. I worked on two pieces for the exchange in November/December, coincidentally both featuring horses (which I haven‘t done in ages).

Cw: the first one features a little bit of blood from an injury that is hidden.

After that got me back into rewatching some bits, I worked on set of Nirvana in Fire stamps for the community challenge.

Then I did two pieces for multifandomdoodle:

a Witcher piece with Geralt, Jaskier and Yennefer

a redrawing of a piece from 2013 with Batman and Superman.

And I also did two gifts for fandomtrees which I cannot reveal yet, phew!

Hmm...it's been a bit of a blur this month. This past week, I've been enjoying going through all the different excellent artworks exchanged at multifandomdoodle. Also, slowly making my way through the Yuletide collection on AO3. <3

In terms of art, I continue to explore using Adobe Fresco to do digital painting. I only did two works. Funny enough, one artwork was done on the 1st day of December, and one on 31st December, bookending the month:

(1) The first was my holiday card, which was my first complete (to me) digital artwork. I learned a lot by experimenting, and happy accidents.

(2) The other piece was done for fandomtrees, in an old fandom that was fun to re-visit after so much time. ^__^
