Today's the last day of August, and we'd love to have you check in and chat with us. How have things been with you this past month?

Did you sign up for or take part in any fandom activities in August, or have you been working on any personal art projects? Are you currently trying to meet a deadline? Feel free to share upcoming art challenges that have got you excited, any frustrations you've been experiencing, possible goals for the next month, and so on.

NB: A Round-Up for the Squiggle Swap Challenge was posted today, and a new monthly challenge will be issued this weekend. :)

I've been dealing with a lot of RL stuff this month, and somehow the creativity hasn't been flowing, but I found all the entries for this month's challenge so fascinating.

Hoping that next month will be more settled, and also a more productive one art-wise.

I want to give myself a goal of doing more drawing next month. It's probably too optimistic to claim I'll draw every day, but that would be ideal. I have so many ideas and yet it's always so easy to put off until "later" and then, as you say, real life gets in the way.

I think the key for me is to dial back my expectations of artistic results (getting frustrated when things don't turn out perfectly... which then makes it hard to start when I don't have time for something complicated) and remind myself that doodling every day is excellent therapy (because when I'm just drawing for the fun of it, it really does help my mood a lot).

I'm so sorry you're going through a tough time with your family. I've been there and it's no fun. Any time you want me to do a task for the comm, just let me know.

I didn't get much done but I did create something that has a lot of meaning for me, so there is that.

I've had a busy month working on challenge deadline art, and the next few weeks are more of the same! The main due South BB (where my comic is a primary) won't be revealed until much later this year, and it's similar for the rest of them (complements/illustrations for fics in Wheel of Time and The Old Guard, and art for a dS vid). Oh well, I did manage to post a squiggle pic and the 4th of my "Arms" court cards for my Stargate Tarot - the Knave of Arms. Am also working, slowly, on a couple of fics.

Apart from my squiggles, I did a couple of pieces this month:

a pinch hit for multifandom doodle (Hannibal, G)

a romantic watercolour for a Chinese miniwebseries, G

an exchange piece (Guardian/DmBJ fusion, PG)

a Chinese pattern based art with negative space (DMBJ, G) it was fun getting out the sparkly metallic colours again for this one.
