Drawesome Monthly Check-In Post

Tomorrow's the last day of June, and we'd love to have you check in and chat with us. How have things been with you this past month?

Did you sign up for or take part in any fandom activities in June, or have you been working on any personal art projects? Are you currently trying to meet a deadline? Feel free to share upcoming art challenges that have got you excited, any frustrations you've been experiencing, possible goals for the next month, and so on.

Reminder: A Round-Up for the Negative Space Challenge will be posted tomorrow, and a new monthly challenge will be issued over the weekend. :)

It's been a great challenge, and I've been so impressed by you and others doing it in watercolours using various techniques.

>> I've really enjoyed seeing all the different responses to this month's challenge! :)

Me too!

I also enjoyed getting an entry in early.

A busy month, but a bit frustrating for me as I have several deadlines looming for fic, and was a bit blocked with writing. Hence the art, which is sometimes a way I procrastinate (about fic). I did get one story done for [community profile] intoabar, and am finally properly underway with a due South comic, but a more urgent story still needs to be finished. I enjoyed the negative space challenge and also managed a mcshep podfic cover through a Discord collaboration, but have fallen behind with my Stargate Tarot cards. Oh well, there's no deadine for those, at least. :)

So many projects going on! Good luck. And I am very intrigued b the idea of a Due South comic.

I had so many sign-ups and challenges this month that I didn't think I'd be able to do the monthly challenge, but I'm glad I made time for it. I had a lot of fun with it!

I signed up for the [personal profile] fairytaleinspired exchange, finished that story, and then picked up a pinch hit. Which is due tomorrow. *slight panic*

I made art for a Big Bang story posting today, which I'll link once the author makes the post at [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang. I have another story in that same challenge posting later in the month and one more piece to complete for it.

For both of these assignments, I decided I would really dig into Procreate and see what it could do. I took several Skillshare classes - painting techniques, lettering, and vector art. There's so many tools and techniques in Procreate that I want to keep going, really make use of it for digital art.

I think I'll probably still use Photoshop for things like icons, banners, and anything similar that isn't what I would call 'original' art. If that makes sense. Fan art isn't original art, but it is original to me. Idk.

I've been thinking I should do some Skillshare classes on Procreate too. I'm enjoying using it but I know I'm only using the most basic aspects of it and I often get frustrated when I can't get it to do relatively simple things.

I highly recommend it - I felt that same frustration with it, and struggled to get pieces to look the way I wanted. I found the classes that worked that best for me focused on one particular tool, and were relatively short.

I had plenty experience with layers and the tools in Photoshop, but Procreate is really aimed at painting versus photo manipulation.

A bit late but here are the pieces I did in June apart from my challenge entries:

Fell into a new show (Eldest Princess Above) and made pieces for it:

Watercolour art, rated T

an ink posing study

The second link also contains another automatic drawing I did to relax.

At the beginning of June the Word of Honour Reverse Big Bang had reveals: here is my piece.
