Content Notes: Great excuse to pull out my toned paper sketchbook! Strathmore 400 series 118 gsm, Derwent tinted charcoals, Staedtler drawing pencils (various hardness), Edding drawliner, and Polychromous white colored pencil. It was very hard to stick to the prompt, because all those butterflies on her shirt and in her hair are gorgeous jewel tones in the original. Taken with my phone.

Oh, lovely! I really like the contrast with the white of their clothing.

Oh thank you! I looked through a ton of pics of these two, but settled on this one mostly because they were both wearing white (the other reason was the piano cutting off the bottom of their bodies, which made a nice border).

Something I've noticed about this toned paper challenge is how soft and intimate people's pictures are. Must be something about using these media that gently pushes us in that direction. It's lovely!

Oh, for sure. When I first did this, I shaded his face like I would have on white paper, but when I took a pic, I realized it was too much. Lots of kneaded eraser work to bring it back to where it looked right.

I think the mid tones especially in their skin work wonderfully here! Also the white clothes and jewellery make for a lovely composition.
