Today's the last day of December, and 2020!, and we'd love to have you check in and chat with us. How have things been with you this past month?

Did you sign up for or take part in any fandom activities in December, or have you been working on any personal art projects? Are you currently trying to meet a deadline? Feel free to share upcoming challenges that have got you excited, any frustrations you've been experiencing, possible goals for the next month, and so on. :)

You are also welcome to share your Year In Review posts as well, especially with regard to any artworks created this past year.

My December project was Shuos Chessmasters [AO3, rated G, hexarchate], which was my experiment in putting Clip Studio EX with an iPad Pro/Pencil 2 through its paces. I hate the subscription model but the app itself works really well - I must have had some two dozen layers at 600 dpi at one point and it didn't lag at all. Also, the snap-to feature on the perspective ruler tool made drawing the chessboard 10000000000x easier even if I was using a reference photo I had shot myself. :p

Mostly, I'm interested in Clip Studio EX for the iPad because I want to do a small comic, with the possibility of following that up with more comic work. I was originally going to do it in traditional media, because I love the thought of doing watercolor comics, but the place where I'd previously gotten 11"x17" 300 lb comic boards discontinued them *sob* so I decided screw it, I'm going digital.

My big project for 2021 is going to be a small animatic, whose boards I'm painting in Procreate using a cockamamie sumi-e style. I'm having tremendous fun with it. :)

Good luck with your comic creating, and animatic as well! They sound like really cool projects. :D

BTW, I found my old Surface Pro stylus pen, and received rechargeable AAAA batteries as a Christmas gift, to be able to use it. LOL. So in addition to looking into getting a device upgrade, I'm looking forward to sourcing digital drawing apps for the new year. :) :)

I've finally mastered repeating patterns:



It still needs work, but I finally have pattern repeats figured out. That has been the pain point on o many projects! Don't ask me how much time I wasted on various methods. It's a lot

The line art version is off by a pixel, but I think I wont have to deal with that in the future:




I finished my tweaks to one isometric room. It's on my DA here with the others. I am still finalizing the design of another one, and I've made no headway on the break room.

That's what's new for December. During the rest of the year I did a ton of inking.

I have a similar pen and a surface pro, and it's great for doing lineart as a preliminary to painting. Hope yours works okay!

December was mostly about finishing art for a few challenges, almost all now revealed so I can share them.
