Challenge #5 (Squiggle - Spiral): Is It Gone Yet?

Title: Is It Gone Yet?  (on AO3)

Content Notes: The spiral prompt reminded me of a fern tip, and the main fandom I'm in that might have the characters in ferns has to be Stargate Atlantis, where most of the filming was done in the ferny woods outside Vancouver, so many of the alien planets look suspiciously similar. :)   I've posted the pencil version, as well as a digitally colorized one.

"It's just a goddamn bee, McKay."

"A giant mutant bee, Sheppard, and why haven't you chased it away yet?"

Oooh pretty! I think I like the black and white version better. The ferns make such a nice overlapping pattern and the contrasts work really well.

Thanks! It was interesting that when I added the semi-transparent colour layer, it softened down the blackness of the pencil drawing. So yes, the pencil one is more dramatic.

I think I tried thatnce with an older artwork. I tried filling the drawing but the pencil wa stoo uneven so everything was coloured not just the area within the lines. Then I tried black ink over the pencil lines which worked better. The result was very comic book style though which I don't always want.

By the way, which program did you use for the digital part?

A very old version of Photoshop. :)
