Content Notes: Created for the Squiggle Challenge #1. Sketched and shaded the piece with watercolour pencils, then I applied water with a brush to intensify the dark values and add texture to the background.

Thanks! It's my favourite thing about watercolour pencils - the variety of textures you can get from scribbling around and then streaking it with water. ^__^

I need to find where I put mine and experiment again because I love what you did with yours. How did you get the black so dark? (That's my main issue with watercolour anything.)

How did you get the black so dark?

Oh! That's a trick I learned on YouTube. *g* Instead of colouring with the black pencil on paper, I lifted off the watercolour from the tip of the black pencil with a wet brush, and then applied the brush to paper to fill in the dark areas. The colour on the lead tip gets *really* intense once it mixes with a little water.

This is great. I need to find my watercolour pencils. I actually knew about the trick with taking the colour straight from the pencil tip but haven't used it much. I also have never rendered a metal surface with watercolour. It's looking great here!

Thank you! :) Glad you like the effect with the watercolour. I'm fascinated with trying to capture reflective surfaces like metal, glass and water. I love how when you're filling in the colour up close, it hardly makes sense and just looks like a random mess, but when you pull back a bit, the brain totally interprets it as this real, shiny surface! So cool. ^__^

Yep, our brains are awesome. I remember having that experience in school, when we learned about pointillism and impressionism. Up close you see random dots of colour and from farther away suddenly there's an image.
