Admin Post: Community Check-In for June

Did you sign up for or take part in any fandom activities in June, or have you been working on any personal art projects? Are you currently trying to meet a deadline? Feel free to share upcoming challenges that have got you excited, any frustrations you've been experiencing, possible goals for the next month, and so on.

IRL, I’ve been busy marking End of Term exam papers all week and still have some due on Monday. After which, I’m on the home stretch to the last day of the academic year this Friday, and then HELLO, SUMMER VACATION. I. cannot. wait! :D :D :D
Hoping to get going on the final challenge, the Disability Diversity one, tomorrow if I finish marking exam papers this evening, and then I’ll be up to speed with all the community challenges. I’m thinking maybe Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye. :)

My classes are all with 11-15 year olds, at an all-girls high school. So I'm interacting with a couple hundred pre-teen/teenaged girls on a daily basis.
It is exhausting. But girls are awesome, and I love Art, and teaching itself is fun. Being a natural introvert though, I just love vacation time even more. *g*

It makes all the other stupid teenage stuff I have to deal with everyday worth it in the end. :b

Art posted this month for fandom challenges:
SPNDystopia Bang - https://amberdreams.dreamwidth.org/851645.html
Wincest Reverse Bang - https://amberdreams.dreamwidth.org/852196.html
Dean Cas Reverse Bang - https://amberdreams.dreamwidth.org/852446.html
SPN-J2 Big Bang - https://amberdreams.dreamwidth.org/854404.html
Non fandom art stuff:
I did an acrylics speed painting workshop - https://amberdreams.dreamwidth.org/852594.html
I finished painting my bee sculpture which has gone up to Manchester for the trail which opens soon - https://amberdreams.dreamwidth.org/849998.html
I've also finished painting my car bonnet (which turned out to be much bigger than I was expecting!), though I've got to take some more photos of it now it's been varnished and before it's collected to go up to Sheffield to be reunited with it's car - https://amberdreams.dreamwidth.org/854108.html
So I suppose it's not that surprising I'm behind with my writing and posting here!
I do want to do that disability challenge but July is going to be a bit busy too so I'll have to see how it goes.
My next fandom art is for an Overwatch fic - not a fandom I know anything about other than it's got two very visually cool characters - for the wipbigbang, posting starts 11th July so I need to get cracking on that one asap.
In August I have two Wincest BBs to illustrate, and there's the J2 Reverse Bang too, which I'd like to do something for.

I love all your "backstage" posts detailing your process! Your working space look so cool! I think I'm jealous! :)
And what's the story behind you painting a car bonnet? You may have mentionned it already somewere else, but I'm curious!

The bonnet is for a charity event in September/October - teams bought a car for less than £650 and artists are decorating the bonnets. Then the teams will drive the cars from Sheffield to Monte Carlo over a long weekend, and when they get back, the charity will auction the bonnets off to raise money. Me and a friend who's a professional artist put designs in, and got picked out to do the painting. It was a lot of fun and made a change from painting the animal sculptures I've been doing. :D
If you do a search on my 'wild in art' tag you'll see more stuff about this!

First: Tony Stark and Doctor Strange.
Second: My Tiefling Wizard from D&D and her excellent handling of a tricky situation.
I drew feet that I was very happy with before remembering that my Tiefling has hooves.

Anyway I did a few things:
This set of vegetable illustrations that I posted on redbubble also.
Finally posted a final of Shoukei (that portrait I've been working on for months).
Did another portrait of my Moon Godlike Watcher for Pillars of Eternity so I can use it while playing.
And I'm focusing on finishing up the red-breasted nuthatch commission for my friend, so the actual paint stage is here as of posting this and I'm digitally sketching the progression of some embellishments that I'll try to finish up in the next week or so. It's been hard because I'm not really used to painting so big (the paper is 11x17) and I'm finding it a bit tricky to get gouache to cover large areas smoothly. I'm going to go over the gold bits with finetec too so it'll be kinda sparkly in person.
After I get through these though I do want to at least try some of the diversity challenges I missed. Might be a while yet, though.

The portraits are cool too, and I like the bird in progress a lot! Painting big can be such a challenge! I look forward to seeing the finished work!

The bird illustration is my favourite. It has sucha distinct style and I think the Finetec paint will make that really extra special.

I took a 32h course in artisanal silk screen printing (I think it's the name? In french we call it Sérigraphie) spread over the week-ends, which was very fun but also kinda exhausting because I was also busy house hunting. I learned a lot and treated myself to a full serigraphie kit with press, paints, screen, various chemicals... During the courses we worked on assigned designs, and outside the classes I only had the time to work on one personal design early on, with the first technique we learned. My first try printing at home was a disaster as at the time I didn't have all the supplies I needed. ^^ No time yet to try again with more interesting techniques. I also was panning to make a recap post about it with pictures and explanations, but didn't have the time yet.
Some pictures can be found on my tumblr: https://jainas-art.tumblr.com/post/174920270932/jainas-art-working-at-adapting-my-inktober-crow or my instagram https://www.instagram.com/jainas/
I reworked one of my inktober drawings to work with serigraphie! :)
I also did two fanarts for a french rare fandoms exchange. They are still anonymous, but I think I can safely out myself here. ^^
- The Ancient Magus Bride : Chise & Elias, Tentacle hug with tastful nudity ^^ https://obscur-echange.livejournal.com/229436.html
- The Adams family: a child's "potato drawing" of his family, by Puberté Adams. Needless to say, it's not quite like other children's drawings of their families. I wrote a short fic (in french, sorry ;) ) to go with it, dealing with Puberté describing the drawing to his teacher and her reaction. You have to scroll down a bit to get to the drawing: https://obscur-echange.livejournal.com/229864.html
And that's it for this month!
Next month I have to get serious with my Hannibal Ravage piece, and finish an ongoing illustration I have neglected the past few months. I'll also try to do more silk screen printing, bu it's time consuming and it's already looking like my month will be pretty busy, so we shall see.

J‘ai reconnu Elias de ton message sur le manga, c‘est image est très tendre et un peu troublant. :-)

I'll try again soon wit the same screen, but I think my first try it was poorly made, so I'd probably be better off cleaning it and starting anew. ^^ I'll take pictures even of the failures! ^^
Platonic consentacle is the new thing. :D
June
1) I got two fantastic gift ficlets, DCU tentacle porn with Dick Grayson (aftermath of fandom snowflake challenge where I seem to have signed up for a gift fic? I had completely forgotten), the other one Slings&Arrows one of my brand-spanking new fandom loves.
2) I did a birthday art fic illustration for
3) I got hot and bothered by the Due South episode Odds where Fraser gets a massage. Also I started using the tag: Rating: Paul Gross. Later I wrote a bit of meta about it.
4) I watched the Sense8 Finale and did a a tiny squee review
5) Aaaand last but not least I did my first Black Panther art (finally!) which just started out as doddling a rainbow with my new pencils from the Scrawlrbox.
Re: June
Also hey, I see you survived the CAPBB fic clams, yay! It was pretty intense. I got my first choice so I’m happy. Cloned Bucky-kids, and an eventual threesome Sam/Steve/Bucky. Lots of art possibilities there. :)
Re: June
And just to reassure you that Goss is prepping for the overseas trip with her folks, and will be handing on challenge ideas to me so I can pick up the modding baton while she’s away. \o/
\o/ that‘s good to hear. I hope I haven‘t been getting on your nerves ;-)
