One of the things I like most about the internet is how easy it makes casual learning.

Of course, it's not guaranteed to be accurate—Today, I learned that some sources classify badgers as carnivores, rather than omnivores, even though the three species I depicted all eat plants, as well as meat. (???! 🤷‍♀️)

I mean, it depends on your definition of "carnivore" (and "herbivore", respectively): do you classify only those animals that only eat meat (or plant matter) as such, or does a "mostly" count? I mean, most sources also happily classify deer as herbivores though they will definitely scavenge the occasional dead rabbit and such... So, I think the "mostly" approach makes perfect sense. I don't think many 100% strict carnivores (or herbivores) exist!

Aha—I was under the impression that carnivores were animals that ate meat almost exclusively. I hadn't heard about flesh-eating deer, before, but I had heard about horses sometimes eating fish or young mammals. I see that it makes sense for me to adopt the more nuanced view you suggest—thanks!
