Review: gold colours ('Starry colours') by Kuretake

So, I saw this colour set in the December box of scrawlrbox and instead of ordering the whole box I just ordered these on a different site. I haven't tried them out yet on white paper, where I imagine the effect will be somewhat different. I like that there are different types of golden hues and a pearly white one which looks silver on paper. To be honest the difference between 904 and 905 isn't very noticeable, but the darker gold shades definitely show up different to the lighter ones.

In practice I tried free doodling with a brush (started with the moon top left), then some lighter water-heavy washes and finally some precise detailwork (right corner). It went all really well and I am very glad I ordered this. What's really cool is that once dry, you can use some water and lift part of the colour off the paper again to create soft edges (look to the left of the pattern with the triangles, there's an example.)

Oh, neat! Those are really pretty. Now you can do more with shading on your gold stuff!

The shiny is very compelling! If you try them with other watercolours, I'd love to know how they turn out- whether they blend and add glitter or work as gold accents.

Ooh those look rather nice - I hadn't seen metallic watercolours before. Someone recommended this powder that you mix with paint or just with water, but these look like they might be easier to handle.

I saw those in some people's December Scrawlrbox reviews, and was kind of curious how similar they are to Finetec. They're definitely emulating the Finetec packaging on the outside, though I don't know if the binding is different since Kuretake is a gansai and I'm.. not really sure what Finetec's binding agent is.

Here's a small color swatch of my Finetecs for comparison, if you're curious.
Edited (meant to use the slightly larger size since I decided not to put it as a preview, ahah.) 2018-02-23 02:32 (UTC)

Those look awesome! I got some bronze ink in my recent sketchbox and need to start using it.
