Admin Post: Upcoming Challenge #9: Inktober

Our next drawing challenge will be a month-long activity:

What is Inktober?

Inktober is a drawing challenge that has grown in popularity in the last few years. Participants attempt to create ink drawings every day, from October 1st to 31st, and post them online on social media - so, 31 drawings in 31 days.

We think it would be a wonderful opportunity for drawesome members to attempt this challenge over the next four weeks. We can motivate and cheer each other on! *\o/*

Some Guidelines:

• Frequency - A drawing can be created either daily, every few days, or weekly over the course of October. Go at whatever pace suits you best.
  
  
• Medium - Drawings should be done in ink, however pencils can be used first. Ink can be applied with a pen, marker or paintbrush.
  
  
• Prompts - The official Inktober list of prompts for this year is posted here:
  
  However, you are not restricted by it. You can use any other Prompt List that you wish (inktoberprompts, Other Inktober Lists), or create drawings randomly without using any particular list.
  
  
• Posting - Members can share their Inktober drawings with the community on a weekly basis. :)

Do Digital drawings count?

Yes. While attempting ink drawing by hand for this month's challenge at drawesome is strongly encouraged, it is not mandatory. So using the digital pen tool to create a visual effect similar to that of a traditional ink pen would be fine.

Not participating in Inktober?

No problem! We have 8 other on-going Drawing Challenges, if any suit your fancy.

Either way, we're looking forward to being inspired and stretching our skills next month! :D

Yay!
Re using digital - I'd say that's counter to the spirit of the challenge which is designed to boost confidence using actual ink. But I wouldn't die in a ditch over it (or be critical of anyone wanting to use a virtual pen).

Yeah, I didn't want to deliberately exclude any digital artists in the community, especially since the aim at our particular community is to develop drawing skills, not so much "inking" skills.

ETA: Of course, using ink is strongly encouraged, but it's not mandatory.

I modified the wording in the post a bit, so thanks for bringing it up. :)

I know some people are on different sides of the fence about that (see digital-inktober), but in our case, it's a community challenge that's based on Inktober, but doesn't necessarily follow it to the letter (eg. you have the option of weekly drawings, as daily might not be possible for many.)

Yep, true enough - and any challenge like this is open to interpretation after all. Nothing is mandatory!
