Today's the last day of April, and we'd love to have you check in and chat with us. How have things been with you this past month?

Did you sign up for or take part in any fandom activities in April, or have you been working on any personal art projects? Are you currently trying to meet a deadline? Feel free to share upcoming challenges that have got you excited, any frustrations you've been experiencing, possible goals for the next month, and so on. :)

At work I've been busy putting out fires another department set. The good side of this is that I haven't had to do writing for work, so I've been writing for fun [largely in stolen moments at work]. I just finished a story about making art.

MEANWHILE I have four sketches to convert into three artworks for the current challenge, so I'd better get to it!

I'm eyeing #mermay prompts but realistically, probably going to struggle to draw like I have been. But I look forward to looking at stuff. I did have counterculture mermaid ideas. :(

I love this month's challenge, even though I didn't get to it myself.

I've been working on a very janky Phasmophobic comic that I need to sit down and finish. That's about all I've done. But hey, Mermay starts tomorrow!

A quieter month in some ways, although I decided to start a new art project, a Stargate tarot (SGA and SG1). Have done three cards so far. Nothing else, other than some writing and the counterculture creature challenge art for this month, but the 4th tarot card is almost done.

I'm participating in fairytaleinspired exchange this month and next month (Entries due June 19). Also, June marks my new year in my bullet journal, so I'll be busy doing the artwork for that.

That's plenty enough to keep me busy the upcoming month, so no Mermay for me, unless I get that assignment on the fairytaleinspired.

I love discovering I did more than I thought via these posts. It slipped my mind that I had started the month with a second entry for the toned paper challenge.

My Nirvana in Fire rewatch continues to inspire me as I am taking a lot of screencaps I want to use for art pieces. The metallic pencils and the black cardboard are still fun to work with and I have already finished one more piece and started a second one yesterday. However, I noticed I am slipping into a mindset of trying to draw like I would using black on white again, so I really need to rein in my impulse to do too many lines.

Go you! And actually, they all count as being on toned paper.

Yeah, I have this issue too. You have to fight that natural tendency to interpret things visually in a certain way. Starting with black as the default background feels like learning to use a whole other language.

I'm feeling weirdly stuck, like I can thumbnail but not draw or ink or anything else. Don't like it.
