Resources Request

How is everyone doing? Many of us are basically homebound these days, and have started thinking about maybe channeling our free time into developing certain skills.

[personal profile] clevermanka is considering taking up drawing once more, and would like to focus on creating artwork of a more stylized, less realistic look. I thought you guys might be able to provide suggestions for where to start.

She is seeking:
"Advice, or suggestions for books/websites geared toward former fine arts majors who want to get back into drawing."

Links to drawing tutorials and other resources would be most welcome! :)

Comic artist Babs Tarr (Batgirl) has a Youtube series called Pub Draw where she goes through a lot of drawing techniques and various mediums. She did study fine arts and often references such things. Of course, as it's made for Critical Role, she focuses on characters from that show and has various guests join her from the cast.

This is a good site, and the tutorial vids are free on youtube: https://www.lovelifedrawing.com

Or of course all the Skillshare drawing classes - over 3000 of them! https://www.skillshare.com/search?query=Drawing. Here are a few examples.

Yeah, I didn't really select the examples from Skillshare for stylized approaches, but there are also lots of those, like manga styles, drawing like Greek icons, etc.

I don't know if this fits the bill but others may be interested - Aaron Blaise is offering an online animation basics course for free at the moment

Damn, I wish my laptop hadn't just died, because I had loads of drawing resources bookmarked and lost them all. But here are some that I remember off the top of my head:

My favourite Youtuber who focuses on drawing is Alphonso Dunn (who has also released an excercise book about his drawing technique):

HulloAlice is more painting than drawing, but her style is less realistic:

So sorry to hear about your laptop. That's the last thing anyone needs rn. Thank you for the links!

My laptop broke *on the first day* of the stay home recommendation :D Luckily I was able to get a cheap, refurbished laptop with a home delivery in just a few days - I did have a moment of true horror at the possibility of being without a computer for teh duration of the pandemic :D
